I’ve been on a steep learning curve as I master the art of speaking coherently, whilst smiling and looking “natural” (apparently it is possible despite a formidable kiwi accent!). As a result, it’s fair to say I’ve had a ferocious “Vulnerability Hangover” in the lead up to our launch. We all get Vulnerability Hangovers (VH). They happen when we are stepping outside our comfort zone, building relationships in unknown territory or exposing our fears. A VH often starts with that icky feeling in the pit of your tummy accompanied by a nagging voice that says “what the heck were you thinking?!” or “did I really just say that”. And for me this is quickly followed by the irrational thought of “ABORT, ABORT, get the heck out of here NOW?”. The good news, according to Brené Brown, “vulnerability is our most accurate measurement of courage” (Daring Greatly), and its absence could mean we are playing too small, or too safe. Here are my top 3 tips for managing a Vulnerability Hangover:
